The old saying 'No daughters at noon, no men at midnight' is widely spread in many places.
The elderly at home may mysteriously tell you that during noon (from 11 pm to 1 pm), the yang energy is at its peak, and girls are born in the yin state. At this time, there will be a "clash of yin and yang" at birth; At the hour of Zishi (11am to 1am), the yin energy is strongest, and male children are born with yang energy. It is also unlucky to be born at this time. Is this statement really reliable? Let's talk nonsense today.

The origin of the old saying: The Old Yellow Calendar of Yin Yang and Five Elements
This sentence originates from the traditional Chinese theory of Yin Yang and Five Elements.
The ancients believed that all things in the world are composed of yin and yang. During the day, the sun, fire, and men all belong to yang; Night, moon, water, and women are all yin. During the day, noon is the time when yang energy reaches its peak, and female babies belong to yin. They are born during the peak of yang energy, as if a drop of water falls into a hot iron plate. Ancient people believed that this would lead to a child's "hard life" or weak physique.
On the contrary, Zi Shi is the time when Yin Qi is heaviest, and male infants belong to Yang. Being born at this time is like a candle being thrown into a deep pool, suppressing Yang Qi. Ancient people believed that this would make the child's future fortune difficult.
How do we view modern science? Listen to what the doctor has to say
From the perspective of modern medicine and biology, this old saying has no scientific basis.
Gender is not determined by time: The gender of a fetus is determined by chromosomes at the moment when sperm and egg combine (XY for male, XX for female), regardless of the time or month of birth.
Childbirth is a complex physiological process that is regulated by hormones from the fetus, placenta, and mother. The child's chosen date cannot be accurately predicted by ancient people.
Health is not related to time: a child's health condition depends on nutrition during pregnancy, quality of prenatal check ups, and postnatal care, and is not directly related to whether they were born at noon or midnight.
So, this old saying reflects more of the ancient people's simple observation and good wishes for the laws of nature, which belongs to a part of traditional culture, but it is not the golden rule of childbirth. Expectant parents can just laugh it off, but if they are really anxious about it and even choose a time for a cesarean section, then there is no need for it.
True 'auspicious day and month': Scientific timing. Although the time of birth is not important here, from the perspective of postpartum care and newborn care, there is indeed a bit of emphasis on choosing the month of the year.
Months that are not suitable for production:
Severe winter season (December February): The north is extremely cold, while the south is damp and cold. Not only are newborns prone to catching colds and respiratory diseases, but it is also extremely inconvenient for mothers to go out for bathing and physical examinations. Reduced outdoor activities may also affect the mood of postpartum women.
During the scorching heat season (July August): high temperatures and stuffiness can be a torment for postpartum women who cannot directly use air conditioning and need to keep warm, making them prone to postpartum heatstroke. Newborns have delicate skin and are prone to developing rash and rash, making it difficult to care for.
Relatively suitable months for production:
Late spring and early summer (April June): the "golden period". The climate is warm and pleasant, with plenty of sunshine but not too much, making it very suitable for opening windows for ventilation and exposing babies to sunlight (promoting vitamin D synthesis and preventing calcium deficiency). Abundant seasonal fruits and vegetables are beneficial for postpartum recovery and breast milk quality. After the baby is one month old, it's also a perfect time to take them out and enjoy the beautiful spring scenery.
Early autumn season (September October): the day of the chosen day. Autumn is crisp and the temperature is cool and dry, making it very comfortable for both postpartum recovery and newborn care. The incidence of intestinal diseases that are prone to occur in summer has decreased, while respiratory diseases that are prone to occur in winter have not yet arrived. By the time winter arrives, the baby has grown up for several months and their resistance has become stronger.

Conclusion
The cultural imprint left by our ancestors in time is' not giving birth to a daughter at noon and not having a son at midnight '. We can understand the wisdom behind it, but we do not have to be bound by it.
Compared to being fixated on a specific moment, the health and safety of both mother and baby are the true "auspicious times".
Be prepared, relax, believe in science, and no matter when or where your baby arrives, it will be your best gift.
